SOLAS Summer School 2018

The 7th SOLAS Summer School took place in Cargèse, Corsica, France, from 23 July - 4 August 2018 and brought together 64 doctoral students and early-career researchers from 24 countries. In a combination of lectures and practical workshops 17 international scientists taught skills and knowledge in many disciplines needed to understand the nature of ocean-atmosphere interactions.

The winners of the best oral presentations and best scientific report, as well as a list of participants and the group photo can be found here.

We thank all students, lecturers, organizers, and sponsors for their hard work and commitment towards the school!

An extended SOLAS event report will follow on the school.

SOLAS session at the 4th Xiamen Symposium on Marine Environmental Sciences (XMAS-IV)
The 4th Xiamen Symposium on Marine Environmental Sciences (XMAS-IV), will be held in Xiamen, China, from January 6-9, 2019. The C4 SOLAS session on "Surface Ocean and Lower Atmosphere Study—Air-Sea interactions and their climatic and environmental impacts" invites submissions that discuss: (1) greenhouse gases and the oceans; (2) air-sea interface and fluxes of gases, particles, microorganisms, and energy; (3) interactions between anthropogenic pollution and marine emissions; (4) atmospheric deposition and ocean biogeochemistry; (5) characteristics of particles and their abilities to form clouds (CCN and IN); (6) interconnections between aerosols, clouds, and marine ecosystems; (7) ocean biogeochemical control on atmospheric chemistry and atmospheric transformations of gases and particles.

Submit an abstract by 31 August 2018 here.

SOLAS at the POLAR 2018 conference
SOLAS joined the POLAR 2018 conference, 15-26 June 2018, Davos, Switzerland and a poster on SOLAS activities in polar oceans was presented in the session on "Connecting Polar Research Across Boundaries". The BEPSII annual meeting, the BEPSII foresight Workshop, and the ECV-Ice annual meeting were held at the POLAR 2018, 15-17 June 2018, and joined by SOLAS.

Call for bids to host the 5th Symposium on the Ocean in a High-CO2 World in 2020

Bids are requested to organise and host the 5th Symposium on the Ocean in a High-CO2 World in 2020. The symposium will maintain its traditional focus on ocean acidification and associated impacts on marine organisms, ecosystems, and biogeochemical cycles.
The SOLAS-IMBER Working Group on Ocean Acidification (SIOA) will identify the local host and organizer and help during the organizational process, if requested. Here we ask for proposals from those who wish to host the next Ocean in a High-CO2 World symposium over 4 days in late 2020. Bids should be submitted to the SIOA by 1 October 2018.
